Story Telling Sunday is hosting a special Laureate Line-up featuring the Poet Laureate of Reno, Jesse James Ziegler, Antioch Poet Laureate, Cordon Concepts, El Dorado county’s poet laureate, Stephen Meadows, and Sacramento Laureate, Andru Defeye. Our Musical guests will be Adie Beatty of Panic and Swoon and Charlie Dale of Cloudspotter. An open mic will follow, but be sure to sign up early as the spots fill up quickly. This event will be live streamed and recorded.

Jose Cordon also known as Cordon Concepts is the inaugural Poet Laureate of Antioch, CA. He’s a sought after spoken-word artist and is the founder of an organization called Grassroots Poetry, whose mission is to build community through poetry. Cordon has been featured in billboard campaigns, an award-winning short film “La Vida Loca”, and has worked with the Latino Community Foundation, Google, the California Endowment, Airbnb, the Blue Shield of California Foundation, Brown Issues, and many more. One of Cordon’s personal missions is to change the way people think about poetry while helping to develop a robust infrastructure and ecosystem for the poetry community to thrive and flourish.
Jesse James Ziegler is currently serving as Poet Laureate for the City of Reno (5th-Jan/24-Dec/25). He is the creator and manager of Monday Night Poetry and vice president for Spoken Views Collective. He is a member of the Sierra Literary Cooperative and the Spoken Word/Poetry contributor to Reno Arts News. He was the first ever Poet in Residence for the Bruka Theatre and held that position for three consecutive seasons (27,28,29) continuing on as an artistic consultant. His first collection of poetry FIVE (2019) was published and brought to life through their annual new Works Festival. Jesse opened and hosted the world premieres of Brandon Leake’s original spoken word play ‘Insomnia’ (Winner of Season 15 AGT) and has been a performance artist at the annual Utah Arts Festival. He has served as both a host and a judge for the Nevada chapter of the national Poetry Out Loud organization and continues to be the curator and host of a monthly poetry book club Collective Breath.
Stephen Meadows is the current Poet Laureate of El Dorado County, California. He is a Californian poet with roots in both the Ohlone and the pioneer soil of his home state. He was born and raised on the Monterey Bay of Central California and received his secondary education at U.C. Santa Barbara, U.C. Santa Cruz where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree and went on to earn a Master’s Degree at San Francisco State University.
Stephen has published poems in anthologies and collections nationwide. The Sounds of Rattles and Clappers from the University of Arizona Press. The Dirt is Red Here from Heyday Books and his first book also from Heyday, Releasing the Days. Stephen is included in; Fire and Rain: Ecopoetry of California from Scarlet Tanager Books edited by Lucille Lang Day and Ruth Nolan and Red Indian Road West also from the same press. In addition, his poems can be found on the spoken word CD Red Smoke Dawn Wind with background music by David Blonski as well as appearing on the CD from Mignon Geli entitled Under the Buffalo Sun. His latest publication is Winter Work that was released on November 19, 2022 currently available Black Lawrence Press.
