Katie Skene is a Roots Rock & Americana singer/songwriter/guitarist whose music blends the twang of southern rock with the cosmic sounds of California. Originally from Tallahassee, FL and currently based in Ventura, CA, Katie's music embodies the melding of her Southern roots with a decade spent on the West Coast. Through the prism of Katie's evocative vocals, personal songwriting and masterful guitar work, her band blends electric swamp blues with jam-band psychedelia. Onstage, they bring a joyful, incendiary energy that combines timeless songwriting with improvised jams. Their performance incorporates funky far-out synths, soaring southern-fried guitar, colorful keyboards and intoxicating blues-drenched vocals, all laid over a deeply pocketed groove. Their music revives the spirit of bands like The Allman Brothers Band and Grateful Dead, maintaining an unpredictable quality that still feels familiar. Katie has shared the stage with many legendary artists and musicians, including Bob Weir & Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead), Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes), George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Warren Haynes (The Allman Brothers Band), Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon), Col. Bruce Hampton and more. Katie's other projects include jam-band supergroup California Kind (with John Molo, Pete Sears, Barry Sless & Rob Barraco) and a collaboration with instrumental funk-world music band, TV Broken 3rd Eye Open.
Hattie Craven will open the evening with a solo performance. Having grown up in a musical household & community, Hattie Craven has lived and breathed music since her early years. Her father, award winning performer and educator Joe Craven, has been a continuous source of inspiration, fueling Hattie’s own exciting musical journey. It all started when she was a bright-eyed four-year-old fiddler, stepped onto the main stage of The Kate Wolf Music Festival joining the dynamic singer/songwriter Laura Love. Moving through being a natural in musical theater and dance, Hattie quickly advanced from ensemble to lead roles in her early years, with a confidence and magnetic stage presence that has captivated audiences and garnered fans to this day. She has blossomed into a highly sought-after session vocalist since the age of eleven. She proudly holds three CDs that are a testament to her creativity beginning at 11 to her current age of 23. Hattie draws musical influences from Amy Winehouse, Joni Mitchell, James Brown, Louis Prima and so many more. She effectively reimagines traditional folk, bluegrass, country, jazz and pop…creating new music that is truly her own. Hattie is also a fine writer of original songs that explore themes of love, loss, and resilience. Her music connects on a more personal level with every heart she catches.
